PAPER PARAPHERNALIA

[SHOW ME A PATH]

THE WALK // 4:15 PM

block 1:

I started my on Willoughby Ave and followed the path that the generator gave me. Searching for paper bits on the ground as I went. There was a lot of discarded paper on the first block, mostly near the residential buildings instead of on the road. I walked on the right side of the road.

block 2:

I was tasked with searching for paper paraphernalia, but as I went through my images again I realized that a lot of what I captured was in fact not paper and was made out of plastic or other materials.

block 3:

As I continued to walk I was forced to really pay attention to the ground and pause often. While this route was not unfamiliar to me, it felt to be taking it in this slow and methodical way.

block 4:

Some blocks had a lot more materials than others and a variety of different kinds depending on the area. It was clear where someone had eaten and discarded food versus places where people congregated to smoke, or drink a coffee.

block 5:

block 6:

Because this walk was not on a loop I had to choose my own path back home. I decided to retrace my steps and see how the experience might be different a second time around. I was still conscious about looking for things, while I didn’t stop to take pictures. However the walk was significantly shorter the second time around. As I continued I felt I noticed less and had to make more of a conscious effort to continue the awareness I had cultivated on my path. The walk back lasted 5 less minutes. The walk back time was not included in my walk time-keeping.
